Wear OS watches will soon get to download Spotify content and listen offline

Support for offline playback in Spotify’s Wear OS app is rolling now. Spotify revealed on August 11 that its Wear operating system will benefit from offline playback “over the next several weeks,” so it’s nice to see that it’s now starting to roll out. Offline playback for Spotify was also recently added to the Apple Watch, although Deezer beat Spotify to the fist by adding the feature to its Apple Watch app a few days earlier.
Doing so is easy: much like with the smartphone app, while listening to a song or album or playlist or podcast, tap ‘download to watch.’ A green arrow next to their names will pop up, indicating they’re stored locally. Smartwatches will need to run WearOS 2.0 or newer to take advantage of the new features, and also run the latest Spotify smartphone app on their paired handset.
