New Aquaman extended trailer shows off classic costume

An extended video for Aquaman, starring Jason Momoa, hit on Friday, a day after director James Wan shared a poster and hinted “something” else was coming. Fans who perhaps were expecting only a short two-minute trailer were gifted more than twice that, as the new footage runs over five minutes *and* shows off that classic Aquaman suit for the first time.

With Aquaman, DC is going all out with presenting us the superhero experience we have all been longing for from DC Extended Universe or The World of DC, as they are now being rechristened as. Director James Wan, who has made a name for himself by helming Horror classics, had promised fans that they won’t be disappointed and going by the extended video he may have delivered a solid superhero epic.

The new poster released on Thursday shows Aquaman clutching not a quindent, but a trident, believed to be the royal weapon that gives him control of the oceans. The colors of the outfit also hint at Aquaman’s classic green and yellow costume.

The extended video is filled with funny one-liners, courtesy Jason Momoa, a badass Black Manta, Mera, Ocean Master, among others. And while the underwater action is visually stunning as well as breathtaking, I loved the chase sequence involving Black Manta. We got our first look at Dolph Lundgreen as King Nereus and Trench Monsters. But the biggest and the most epic moment was to see Jason Momoa in the classic Aquaman suit. Damn!

In case you’re unfamiliar with the swimming superhero: Momoa’s Arthur Curry, also known as Aquaman, is half-Atlantean and half-human, and has superhuman strength and the ability to manipulate ocean tides. He can also swim at supersonic speed and famously can communicate with other aquatic life.

Aquaman is slated for a December 21 release in the US. Its India release is still not out. My guess is, it won’t hit the Indian screens on the same day as the US because Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero is releasing on December 21 in India.
