Facebook and Instagram appears to be facing another outage. Mark Zuckerberg incurred nearly 7 billion dollars in losses due to the global social media outage, which lasted almost six hours.
Facebook hasn’t had a good October so far. It faced one of its longest blackouts on Monday, October 4 which lasted nearly six hours. The outage impacted all of Facebook’s major apps, including Instagram, Facebook Messenger, and WhatsApp. Facebook later wrote a blog post explaining that its engineering teams found that configuration changes on the backbone routers that coordinate network traffic between the company’s data centers caused issues and disrupted service. The Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) issue was what caused the outage the last time for Facebook.
As opposed to the Monday downtime, the outage in the early hours of Saturday was a minor one. Most of the features worked except for the ability to post a new photo on the social media platforms. Other than this, the services were running just fine for scrolling through the feed and other features like sharing Stories.
